Join BELONG Partners, Scope Screenings, and community guests on Friday, November 7, 5:00pm – 8:30pm, in downtown Seattle for a free screening of Ava DuVernay’s landmark documentary 13th.
RSVP now to reserve your space!
This is a public event centering film, lived experience, and dialogue about dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline, anti-Blackness, and reimagining justice.
The evening includes beverages, light hors d’oeuvres, and time for networking. We will open with remarks from a community speaker who is formerly incarcerated. In addition to 13th, the evening will feature a curated selection of 2–4 short films. These shorts will explore themes of systemic harm, resistance, and liberation, setting the stage for deeper reflection.
This screening is the culminating session of an internal anti-Blackness learning arc at BELONG Partners, co-developed and co-facilitated by Sylvia Hadnot and Roshaé M. Lowe using the AORTA (Anti-Oppression Resource and Training Alliance) curriculum. The series has supported BELONG’s staff in examining their roles within systems of harm and in cultivating a culture of accountability, imagination, and collective care.
The decision to screen 13th reflects BELONG’s deeper work to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline. Through on-the-ground partnerships with schools, BELONG trains educators and administrators to build belonging-centered classrooms, shift punitive discipline mindsets, and implement restorative practices. These approaches help reduce exclusionary discipline and create environments that support all students, especially marginalized students, to thrive.
