As an adult who works with young people, you understand that this is the way every child needs to feel in order to learn and thrive. How can you help them experience emotional safety? Especially when our own nervous systems may be overwhelmed, and many of us are exhausted from these last few years of the challenges of the pandemic.

In this online, interactive workshop, we cover the three R’s (regulate, relate, reason) which are critical in building positive relationships with kids. Explore with us how to help children feel safe (Regulate) and connected (Relate), to learn new social or academic skills (Reason).
You will learn in community with other educators, youth workers and caretakers, as we share practical information and practice activities that will make an immediate and positive difference in your relationships with young people. By the end of this 2-session series, you will be able to:
- Understand the impact of trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES), so that you recognize the reasons for youth behaviors that are challenging for adults
- Adjust your own behavior to build more connected relationships with kids
- Strengthen your own capacity to self-regulate and calm your own nervous system, which enables you to better respond and manage challenging situations
- Become a buffering adult who is able to help youth navigate toxic stress and develop their own resilience
- Invite conversations with colleagues about the impact of trauma, so that you can help move your team or school towards awareness and shared understanding
- Implement practical activities and tools in your own classrooms or other settings where you work with children and youth, so that your class or setting is a trauma-informed, safe place for all young people
This workshop includes: An online course offered over two 2-hour sessions. A downloadable workbook, and short videos before each session to provide foundational information.
Clock hours are available at no additional cost through OSPI for Washington state.
The program fee of $95 includes the cost includes the pre-class videos, course workbook, and connection to peers who share your interest in helping all kids thrive. After the workshop, participants will have access to the workshop recording for two months.
