Designing Our Own Learning

“For a lot of the young people, it’s the first time they get to be in a space side by side with teachers—not about power over, but about sharing what they care about and what they want to see happen in their school.”

Alan Wong
BELONG Partners Facilitator

By amplifying the voices of those least heard within schools, DOOL (Designing Our Own Learning) fosters a more equitable experience in schools.

DOOL brings students and teachers together to catalyze youth voice and co-create projects that foster a more equitable and student-driven educational experience. By centering the voices of those least heard within schools, we are building the sort of inclusive, connected communities that are at the heart of healthy societies.

We’re excited to be running our 8th annual DOOL program in summer 2026, bringing together students and educators from Dimmitt, McKnight, and Risdon Middle Schools to learn, create, and lead side by side.

This evolving program is making an impact—and with your support, we can continue to make schools more equitable and youth-centered.

DOOL is made possible by generous funders:

We were thrilled that DOOL was awarded a Seahawks Impacting 50 Communities grant! Students and educators, with BELONG Partners staff and representatives from the Seahawks, met for a celebration at McKnight Middle School in Renton.
